Humanin
Humanin is a distress signal your own mitochondria produce when cells are under threat — it tells them to survive instead of self-destruct. Research shows powerful neuroprotection against Alzheimer's markers, cardioprotection during heart stress, and improved insulin sensitivity. It's your body's built-in cellular bodyguard.
About Humanin
Humanin was originally discovered in 2001 during a screen for genes that protect against Alzheimer's disease-related cell death. Research has since revealed its role as a systemic signaling peptide with effects on apoptosis, inflammation, and metabolic function. It acts through the heterotrimeric CNTFR/WSX-1/gp130 receptor complex and the formyl peptide receptor-like 1 (FPRL1). Studies demonstrate neuroprotective effects against amyloid beta aggregation, cardioprotective properties, and metabolic benefits including improved insulin sensitivity. As part of the MDP family alongside MOTS-c, humanin research has opened new frontiers in mitochondrial-nuclear communication.
